To allow stock exchange trading of securities, these have to be clearly identifiable. The ISIN serves this purpose. The ISIN is an international securities identification number (International Securities Identification Number) for stock and certificates representing stock as well as for bonds, options and futures. It consists of a twelve-digit combination of letters and numbers which clearly identifies each security.
Another requirement is the master data, which includes company and trading information relevant to market participants.
In Germany, the allocation of the ISIN and master data is upon application to the WM-Group.
In addition to certain security and application-related data, as an issuer, you are required to report a Legal Entity Identifier (LEI), which is an alphanumeric code. The LEI connects to key reference information that enables clear and unique identification of legal entities participating in financial transactions and other official interactions.
The allocation of the LEI is done through one of the following providers: List of providers.
