The amount will be used for Evotec's integrated R&D platform to research and develop a novel, first-in-class program in women's health and contraception.
This is not the first time that the development platform of Evotec SE's (EVT, MDAX/TecDAX, NASDAQ: EVO) technology toolbox has been selected for the topic of "women's health". Bayer had already entered into a collaboration agreement with the Hamburg-based company in 2020 to jointly advance the development of clinical candidates in the field of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) treatment.
Now the company has received an $18 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Dr. Craig Johnstone, Chief Operating Officer of Evotec, commented: " We are very excited to bring a first-in-class program in women's health to the clinic and make it available globally. The grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will enable us to leverage Evotec's fully integrated research and development platform to discover and develop new, safe and effective drug candidates that have the potential to improve the lives of many women".
More detailed information about the field and the target of the joint approach was not provided by Evotec at this stage, even upon request. However, it was explicitly pointed out that the content of this project was completely independent of other partnerships in the field of women's health, such as the aforementioned partnership with Bayer and the technology cooperation partner Celmatix Inc.
